Ask our AI about the job

Not sure what you need? Just describe it.

Tell it what you want built, fitted or fixed, and what the property is. It works out the job and prices it from the same rate card as the calculator below — or tells you when that job is quoted on site.

What will the joinery cost?

Whole-property doors and joinery by floor area and specification, or the individual jobs you actually need. Every figure comes from one rate card, with its source beside it — and where Malta publishes no figure, the calculator says so.

120 m²

Basic is painted or laminate leaves in standard sizes. Luxury adds veneered, made-to-measure doors and better ironmongery. Super Luxury and Ultimate are solid timber, flush frames and bespoke ranges, and come out as a range because the specification decides the number.

Describe the job.
We'll work it out.

A photo of the alcove, a sketch of the wardrobe, or just a sentence. It asks what it needs, then prices the answer from the same rates as the calculator — not from a guess.

Tell me about the job — doors, a wardrobe, a kitchen to fit, a pergola, something broken — and roughly what the property is.

Attach a photo of the room or the piece and it will say what the work involves. Files are passed straight to the assistant and never stored. Answers come from this site's own rate card. Maltese joiners quote rather than publish, so for many jobs it will say the price comes after a site visit rather than guess.

How Carpenters.mt works

Most joinery in Malta is bought from a workshop that also fits it, or from a retailer that does not. We replace the guesswork with a contractor: a site visit with a tape measure, an itemised quote, a verified joiner who makes and fits the piece, and someone accountable if a door sticks a year later. You deal with us; we deal with the trade.

01
📐
Site visit
A joiner measures the opening, the alcove or the roof, and writes down what the job actually is — free, no obligation.
02
📊
Itemised quote
A fixed price, line by line, against the rate card where it has a line and a written quote where it does not. Nothing hidden in a lump sum.
03
✅
You approve
Nothing is cut until you have seen the drawing and the price and said yes.
04

Made and fitted
Made to measure by a CheckYourTraders-verified joiner, fitted by the same hands, in the timber or board the specification calls for.

Handover
Every door swings, every drawer runs, every hinge is adjusted before we leave — and we are the number you ring afterwards.

No licence exists.
So we verify.

Malta licenses contractors for demolition, excavation and construction — not carpentry or joinery. The Building and Construction Authority's skill card is a site-access scheme still being written into regulations, not a trade licence. Anyone with a workshop and a van can call themselves a joiner, and many good ones and a few bad ones do.

That is why verification does the work a licence would. CheckYourTraders checks identity, insurance and track record, publishes reviews from real customers, and gives the joiner a right of reply. Every carpenter we use has passed that, and we are the contractor who answers for the job.

Need more than carpentry?

Carpenters.mt is one of the CheckYourTraders trade sites. The same verified network, the same rate-card discipline, the same contractor model — for the other trades a property needs.

We are actively looking for
the best joiners in Malta.

Carpenters.mt delivers jobs as the contractor, and every carpenter on one comes from the CheckYourTraders-verified network. We want the workshops that measure twice, hang a door so it swings shut on its own, and put their work in front of a customer without flinching — in Malta and Gozo.

Tell us what you do and where you work. When a job comes up that fits, we will put you in front of it.

We read every one. Verification through CheckYourTraders comes first; nobody goes on a job of ours without it.

Frequently asked questions

How much do fitted wardrobes cost in Malta?
A Maltese marketplace guide puts a carpenter-made fitted wardrobe at €800 to €2,000 and up, which is the band the calculator carries. Below that sit the flat-pack and modular options — a 180 cm sliding wardrobe at about €500, or a 200 cm hinged modular unit at €850 to €1,030 supply only from a Maltese reseller. Sliding gear, veneer instead of melamine and a full internal fit-out push a bespoke piece past €2,000. No Maltese joiner publishes a per-metre rate, so anything quoted per metre is derived, not published.
What does an internal door cost?
A leaf alone is €169 to €479 at Maltese retailers, the one solid-timber model in that range at €239. A made-to-measure laminate door with frame, handles, locks and fitting is quoted by Maltese workshops rather than listed. The calculator prices a whole property's doors per square metre from turnkeymalta.com's rate card and hanging a door you supply from the small-jobs rate; a supplied-and-fitted single door is quoted on site.
Do carpenters need a licence in Malta?
No. The contractor licensing that came into force in July 2025 covers demolition, excavation and construction only, and the Building and Construction Authority's skill card is a site-access scheme whose regulations were still being drafted in 2026. That is why every carpenter on a job of ours is verified by CheckYourTraders, and why we stand behind the work as the contractor.
Do I need a permit for a pergola or decking?
The Development Notification Order does not use the words pergola or decking. A roof-level pergola is a roof structure: it can go through the notification procedure only if it is set back six metres from the front elevation, under 36 square metres, and not in an outside-development zone or on a scheduled building; otherwise it is a full application, and Maltese guides put the Planning Authority fees at €200 to €600. Loose decking on a private terrace is a different question from a fixed structure. In a condominium the roof is a common part and needs the co-owners' agreement. Ask your perit before ordering timber.
Solid wood, veneer or laminate?
Most Maltese joinery is laminate or veneered engineered board over a stable core, because solid timber moves with the humidity and the sea air. Solid timber is right for a front door, a staircase or a piece you want to last a century; veneer gives the look with less movement; laminate is the workhorse for wardrobes and kitchens. The site visit is where that gets decided against the room.
Will you fit a kitchen I bought elsewhere?
Yes — flat-pack or from a showroom. No Maltese source publishes a labour-only kitchen-fitting rate, so it is quoted on site; bespoke kitchens made and fitted by a Maltese carpenter run €3,000 to €8,000 by size and materials, on the same guide. Plumbing, electrics and worktop templating are normally separate trades.
Can I change my apartment's entrance door?
Your own door, usually yes, subject to the condominium's rules on appearance; the block's entrance door is a common part and changing it needs the co-owners. Malta has no rule requiring a fire-rated flat door, but REI30 fire doors are sold locally at about €779 and are worth specifying in a shared stairwell. Steel security doors are €469 to €749 supply only.
Do you cover Gozo?
Yes. Joiners local to Gozo from the same verified network, so nobody is paying for a ferry to hang a door.
Is the calculator a quote?
No. It is an honest figure from a published rate card so you know what you are walking into — and for the jobs Malta publishes no figure for, it says so. A free site visit turns it into a fixed, itemised quote, and nothing is cut until you have approved that.
How do I get started?
Book a free site visit. A joiner measures up, we send an itemised quote, and if you go ahead the work is made and fitted with one point of contact from the first visit to the last hinge.
